About Rolland Township
Welcome to Rolland Township!
Beautiful Rolland Township is located in the southwest corner of Isabella County. Established in 1866, it was home to farmers and lumbermen who shared the work of developing the land. By 1878, lumberman Philip Blanchard purchased D.R. Shaw's hill and plotted a small community on the western edge of the township bearing the new owner's name. Today, more than 140 years later, Rolland Township is home to more than 1,300 residents with its population and business center located at Blanchard.
Rolland Township is widely recognized for its lovely natural splendor! No autumn color tour is complete without a drive down the scenic rolling hills of Blanchard Road to enjoy the many brilliant red, orange, yellow, and auburn colors displayed among the countless maples and oaks which adorn both sides of the path!
Blanchard's “Millpond Days” features the unique Millpond Park with its promontory view and riparian activities for all ages! RV camping is available to those wishing to enjoy a leisure-filled weekend of hiking, fishing, canoeing, and refreshments on the millpond! Two regulation ballparks are teeming with activity offering league action for the entire family!
Rolland Township is proud of its contribution to our nation. Dr. Merze Tate, the nationally recognized Howard University historian and the first African American woman to earn doctorate degrees from both Harvard and Oxford Universities, was a Blanchard High School valedictorian and called Rolland Township her home. Francis Bishop, the Civil War’s last living Medal of Honor winner and honoree of President Franklin Roosevelt, served on the Rolland Township Board and is buried in the village cemetery.
Rolland Township takes pride in its distinct place in Isabella County! With businesses, stores, churches, scenic drives, picturesque parks, ball fields, and rich history, Rolland Township welcomes all to visit, shop, antique, worship, relax, and enjoy!
