Rolland Township Cemetery Rules – Updated March 2021
- Contact both the Rolland Township agent (sexton) and the township clerk for all cemetery lot/s sales. No purchase is officially recorded until payment is received and certificate is issued by the clerk.
- Burial spaces are for human burials only. The rights of the purchaser/s are subject to such rules and regulations as the Rolland Township Board may make from time to time.
- A “burial space” shall be defined as the place of burial for a single casket and vault only. Only platted burial spaces will be sold; walkways and paths are not available for purchase. A burial space may contain two cremation urns.
- Burial spaces will be sold on an individual basis. Individuals may purchase in advance one burial space during his/her lifetime intended for themselves according to the resident/non-resident qualifications described in this policy. Reservations are non-transferable. If the burial space is surrendered with certificate the purchase cost will be refunded. Trades or relocation arrangement will not be made.
- A resident is a person who resides in Rolland Township at the time of purchase or death.
- Burial spaces are reserved for the purchaser for up to 100 years; at which time the reservation becomes void. Individuals wishing to be buried near each other should make their purchases at the same time. Rolland Township does not guarantee burial spaces will be available in proximity to others at later dates.
- All grave openings, closing or delays in interment will be supervised by the cemetery agent (sexton) and Rolland Township authorities (clerk, supervisor, or treasurer).
- No burial spaces will be prepared without all requirements satisfied. When burial spaces are requested on behalf of deceased individual, graves will not be done until requirements are satisfied.
- Winter burials may be requested and can be provided, if possible, at an extra cost. This increase in cost replaces any and all burial costs currently provided by the Township Board.
- All memorials shall be made of cut natural stone or bronze. Headstones must be set on a cement foundation at least one foot deep and must be done by an authorized township agent.
- All memorial displays must be placed within the bounds of the cemetery space. Artificial flowers must be in a container secured to the ground. Mounding, landscaping, or enclosures, which hinder lawn maintenance, are prohibited. Planting of shrubs or other vegetation must be approved by the township clerk.
- Rolland Township reserves the right to enforce these rules and to remove any monuments or decorations that violate cemetery rules and regulations.
- Feel free to contact the Rolland Township clerk, supervisor, or treasurer for final burial costs and the details of scheduling an internment.
